Kindred Spirits

 The Eagle:  Love

 The Mantra: I Love

  • The symbol of Love is the Eagle. The Eagle carries messages of love from the Earth (mother) to the sky (Father). Love is an undeniable force that strengthens the 2 balancing energies. It is everyone’s right to have and experience it.

In our bodies, we carry the blood of our ancestors and the seeds of future generations. We are strengthened by those who came before us and inspired by those who will follow. The reason that our species was able to survive until now is that we know how to cooperate, collaborate, and live circularly with an unending flow of reciprocal sharing and love.

  • Our ancestors understood the balance of masculine and feminine energy. Before colonization, many tribes considered Two-Spirit or TGNCI people sacred because they carried the balance of feminine and masculine energy. They represented a more complete human and were honored by the tribe and Spirit.

We have lost our balance in the world because we have separated these two balancing energies. Colonization has taken away the vital context in which women are held, removing their voices and unbalancing societal roles. Colonization also distorted the role of the feminine by leading her away from the true power she holds, convincing her that the only power she could attain was the power within a patriarchal structure. Colonization silenced women, relegating them to a subservient status through violence. Women's wisdom was disregarded in the process, leading to societal imbalance. Colonization shifted men away from their role of protecting life and turned them towards the protection of material and wealth.

  • Remembering and implementing the balanced foundations of love is what decolonization is. It’s balancing your needs with the energy of those around you. This includes doing your best for yourself and your health. Know your limits concerning your body and the life you live. Your best will change daily, but when you have done your best, there is no place for self-doubt. We express love to our family, friends, and community through our actions and words. Love does not want what belongs to others; it does not break, become angry, or keep track of what others have done wrong. Love the people and the creatures of the world. The more we give love, the more it grows within us. Love is unconditional and infinite. Love is the intangible embrace of life.

  • Pre-colonization, healthy relationships among tribal people were based on equality, equity, and mutual respect. However, the introduction of colonial influence in the culture of healthy relationships has been disrupted. Our goal is to establish a network of support that we call a sacred circle. The sacred circle requires guiding voices from all: BIPOC elders, youth, disabled, and women.

Community Collaboration: Kindred Spirits ( Disability & Elder Support, Youth & Family, Reproductive Rights)

Society’s obsession with youth and ability completely contradicts indigenous principles. Today, youth is synonymous with life, vitality, and ability, yet there is no consideration for future generations or the elders they will become. Traditionally, our elders and disabled were associated with wisdom, peace, and a broader perspective. Now, they are primarily associated with death, disability, and decline.

We have assigned Love to this work because love brings balance and equity. Love ensures everyone is treated with dignity and every voice is heard. Collaborating with the disabled, elders, and women brings everyone to the table and completes the sacred circle of equity.
